I am working on a special issue of my magazine, Surreal Grotesque, which will be about the best web comics or independent comic artists that people haven’t heard of. I want to help spread the word and promote artists. I would just need a bio from you, your info that you want to promote such as if you are available for commissions and 5-7 pages of your best work. It will be a special digital issue of the magazine and perhaps later I can try and do a physical book of it. If you would like to be a part of this project, let me know: dangrn77@hotmail.com, just put Surreal Grotesque #0 as the subject. You can check out my website here: www.surrealgrotesque.com. Horror/bizarre, scifi comics preferred. This ocmic looks awesome.

I'm so lucky to have Reuben (~cobotenuss) doing the cover art for this series. His work even looks good with my designs on top.

Yeah, I can see that. This one was definitely a good place to start, probably the most important image in my gallery right now.

You shouldn't have said that. Now as soon as it's ready you'll be getting spammed. ;)

Seriously, though... Thank you. That little comment means more than I can say, since it's coming from you.

Thank you. I know I say this a lot, but that means a lot coming from someone whose work I have such respect for.

Putting together my first book like this has been a great learning experience. On top of writing, I've also been responsible for (something like) lettering, editing, producing, etc. If this writing thing doesn't work out, putting together a book is so rewarding, I may consider becoming an editor.

Needless to say, as a result, I've gained a ton more respect for everyone from end to end of the process of creating a comic.

My dream is for this book to be picked up by one of the midsize publishers. However, in many ways it would mean even more if it led to bigger things for the artists I've worked with. They all deserve to break through to the next level.

doing indie comics is play the Robert Rodriguez. I love that, I have to say.

Good to hear you have such a good time, Ian. Fucked up part of selling it. It looks like a good fit for Oni Press or Dark Horse. Or Image, of course. If it doesn't pan out, though, I would suggest to consider doing a European Tour. Dargaud, Delcourt and Semic are right there, they speak English (and probably Italian too) and have boatloads of euros. and the readership is a whole different beast, very interesting.

The plan for pitching the book is to wait (in most cases) until we have the full issue ready. As an unproven writer, and a team that is new to the US market, it sounds like most publishers will prefer that. We're very close to having everything ready, and I've already written the pitches, outlines, etc.

We will be going to the likes of Dark Horse, Image, Oni, Avatar, etc. (The ones you mention are the ideal, really.)

We have definitely considered the European publishers, and will be speaking to them as well. Manuela and Michela are fairly well established in French/Italian circles. I think we'd all like to see it published in the US, but Europe would be exciting as well.

In the meantime, while I wait for a few more pages to be done, I'm focusing on advertising and promoting the book... It can't hurt if we already have a solid fanbase before the book is published. (Just one more job for the indie writer!)

Thank you for all of your support and feedback! The comics industry is so amazing, because of the people-- It always surprises me who is stopping to lend their supportive words, advice, and help. :)

Good to hear it's moving forward.

I mention the European market because, knowing the numbers that US indies do... well, I don't think money is your main concern right now. and you can grow readership in both markets with the same material, controlling royalties and edition from day one. That can help you all a lot down the line.

Rep talk aside, the book is looking fantastic in the pages I've seen so far. Hope the whole thing completes soon, Ian
