August 10th, 2008
Model: :icontheshadowsarerising: Wyllow - ~TheShadowsAreRising a.k.a. ~NudeDragon
Series: Nymph 2.0
Location: CoverShot Studio - Lawrence, MA

Note: Model is 19 years old. As always, be respectful.

I'm really excited to introduce my newest model, Wyllow-- who is the first model I have met through DA. I'm even more excited since this is my first studio shoot since January.

This is from our third set of our first shoot. Really, as we progress though these, the themes become darker, and the model becomes more mature (while still keeping an obviously beautiful youthfulness). There's a contrast between the modern and the fantastic, and a sense of drowning or dangerousness.

Now available as a print.

I have also worked this image into an album cover design, which can be seen via this [link]

Winner into the "8th Deadly Sin: Guilty Pleasures" [link] contest!

Here's what I had to say for the contest, which also explains the image very well:

One of the things that makes me most guilty as a photographer is failing to include the model's face. The odd thing is, while I love portraits, I also try to make every image interesting and compelling as a composition, not just as a depiction.

So for me, the Eighth Sin for a Fetish Photographer is simple... Objectification. This image is one of my favorite, and most recent, examples of that struggle.

Great composition, perfect lighting and hues -- not too much and not too little.

To me this looks like it would make a striking and original comic book cover :D

the composition is awesome, and i love how her legs are a bit bent, it looks like she's hanging off of something and fighting gravity. the blue cast is really effective aesthetically as well, and i love the variety of textures from the shiny patent leather of her boots to the porcelain quality of her skin to the subtle harshness of the background. conceptually, though, i don't think that the concept is delivered clearly through the photo. without the title (which is also beautiful and is arguably a major success factor in any artwork) i wouldn't have been able to have the slightest clue as to what the concept is. i'm used to the cropping of the model's faces so as to add some intrigue and tension to the photo, and i don't really think that it objectifies the model, but i guess that's just a matter of opinion. another thing is that your logo, while stunning, is a bit overpowering in the image and it's hard to imagine the photo without it. perhaps it could be smaller or more transparent. despite the unclear concept and the logo issue, this photo is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful

I know this is meant as an example for objectification in photography, but I think it speaks volumes about the objectification of women, too :) There's something wonderfully captivating about the image, maybe as you say "a sense of drowning or dangerousness".
